22 July 2024 Marc Jones, the Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner spoke at the club luncheon meeting about crimes past and present. Looking back Marc talked about the simplicity of policing, trials and sentencing in the early 1800s. He described the arrest, trial and sentencing of Tom Otter, the last man to be publicly hung and gibbeted and in Lincolnshire in 1806, convicted of killing his wife. Marc contrasted this with the sophistication of modern day trial and policing processes, with the growing use of digital detection and evidencing methods. He also spoke to the club about the use of crime data analysis and the understanding of correlations between past and future behaviour in crime prevention. In response to member questions Marc also addressed the ongoing crime problems of fraud and scamming.
