VW Camper Day previous     next

26 March 2017

We like to help Lincoln BIG with their projects whenever we can. On Sunday 26th March we helped steward a VW Camper Rally around the Brayford Pool. The three main areas were on the University site, on the Car Park off Brayford Street and on the North bank of the Brayford pool. We split our team into 2 shifts, 9am to 12noon and 12noon to 3pm. Our intrepid team comprised The Webbs, the Kalsons, David Briggs Diane Genders, Malcolm Miller, and yours truly. I was delegated to control the car park off Brayford Street which had been taken over for the day by Lincoln BIG. It was nice to tell the participants that parking was free for the day and to have the power to politely tell those who were not eligible that the car park was not available to them. Some of their responses could not be repeated here.

I found the atmosphere to be otherwise great, the sun shone all day and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Most of the vehicles were immaculate, some original and some with very expensive modifications.

The van nearest to the road had lowered suspension, "racing wheels" and a custom grill replacing the original. These modifications were made to a brand new vehicle. The original wheels, suspension and grill were on sale on the day.

3 hours of Rotary Service meeting happy people, what is not to like.
