Rotary Club of Lincoln – District Disability Games     next

26 April 2015

PDG Peter Manton again lead the Rotary Club of Lincoln participation at the disabled games.

This year our team totalled 13 members with five carers, three Rotarians and three members of Inner Wheel. We travelled to The Pods Leisure Centre at Scunthorpe in a 16 seater coach and three cars. Two of the cars were contestants and carers making their own way there and the third, Malcolm and Margaret Miller taking two of the contestants and two wheelchairs.

We arrived on time and the team assembled in our seating area to be fitted with name–badges, numbers and T shirts.

There followed the usual busy day with members visiting the various events and some returning later for the second rounds and in two cases the finals. We had a win in Boccia and Archery and a runner-up in Archery.

The event was visited by District Governor Wendy , the Mayor and Graham Taylor (previously the manager of the England Football Team).

There was entertainment in the form of Morris Dancing, singing and dancing to help fill in the time for those contestants who were knocked out of the competitions in the early stages. At one time one of our wheelchair competitors was "dancing" on the stage along with the District Governor.

Unfortunately the event ran out of time and the closing ceremony was an hour later than intended, but all agreed it had been a good day and the weather superb.

Jason Curtis had left before the presentation and I was able to present him with his Archery trophy when he attended Archery class at the NK Leisure centre the following evening.

This year the team missed one of the regulars Jane Tanswell who died a week before the games. She and her husband Steve have been in our team for twenty years and Jane will be greatly missed. Most of the team will attend her funeral on May 13th.
